Menopause Stole My Ambition and Then Gave Me Something Better
I used to be so driven.
The kind of driven where I’d get up early, crush a to-do list before most people had finished their coffee, and still make it to every meeting, every kid event, every deadline.
I had goals. Spreadsheets. Vision boards.
I chased promotions. Ran departments. Built programs. Built businesses.
And then one day, it was like someone flipped a switch.
I didn’t care.
I didn’t want to hustle.
I didn’t feel inspired.
I didn’t feel much of anything.
I didn’t recognize myself.
At first, I thought it was burnout.
Maybe I’d just been going too hard for too long.
Maybe I needed a weekend off, a little self-care, a reset.
So I booked a massage. Took a day off. Watched a Netflix series. Ordered takeout.
And it didn’t help.
The exhaustion didn’t lift.
The fog didn’t clear.
The drive didn’t come back.
And that scared me. Because ambition was part of my identity.
I was always the one with a plan. The one who got sh*t done.
And suddenly... I couldn’t.
I wasn’t sad, exactly. I wasn’t even burned out in the traditional sense.
I was done.
Not with life. Not with my business. Just with the old version of success I’d been chasing for years.
Menopause didn’t just change my hormones. It changed my drive.
No one told me this could happen.
No one mentioned that ambition could disappear. That focus could vanish. That your entire sense of purpose could go blurry.
Menopause is usually described as hot flashes, night sweats, and maybe some mood swings.
But for me, and for so many women I’ve talked to, it’s so much more.
It’s identity loss. It’s apathy. It’s suddenly looking around and thinking, “Why am I doing any of this?”
And that question is terrifying when your life has been built around goals and go-getting.
I almost walked away from everything.
My business.
My marriage.
My routines.
My plans.
Not because they were broken, but because I was.
Menopause stripped away the part of me that had been operating on overdrive for decades. And without that part running the show, I didn’t know who I was anymore.
But here’s the part I didn’t see coming.
Underneath all the doing and striving and proving...
There was someone else waiting.
She was softer.
Quieter.
Slower.
Wiser.
More honest.
More grounded.
She was me, just not the version the world had clapped for.
This new version didn’t want to hustle to feel worthy.
She didn’t need the applause.
She didn’t care about being seen as “impressive.”
She wanted peace. Simplicity. Depth.
She wanted to work with intention, not urgency.
To create, not perform.
To serve, not scramble.
And slowly, I let her lead.
I started saying no more.
I deleted apps.
I stopped trying to keep up with everyone else’s pace.
I let go of services I no longer wanted to offer.
I canceled calls that didn’t align.
I stopped forcing myself to create when I was drained.
And something magical happened.
My ambition came back, just in a different form.
It wasn’t loud or flashy.
It wasn’t tied to numbers or metrics or followers.
It was steady. Rooted. Real.
Now, I care about building a business that feels good to run.
A business that gives me energy instead of stealing it.
A business that supports my health, my mind, my rhythm, and my life.
I care about helping women like me, who are navigating mid-life, menopause, and business at the same time, realize that they don’t have to choose between their success and their sanity.
I care about being a voice that says, “You’re not broken. You’re becoming.”
Because that’s the truth.
Menopause didn’t ruin my ambition.
It refined it.
It burned off the parts that weren’t sustainable.
It peeled away the layers of performance.
It brought me back to myself.
And what I found underneath?
Still powerful.
Still capable.
Still driven.
But not by hustle.
Not by pressure.
Not by the need to prove anything to anyone.
So if you’re in this right now and you feel like your ambition has gone missing, I want you to know something.
It’s not gone.
It’s just shifting.
It’s becoming something that’s more in line with who you are now instead of who you used to be.
You don’t need to force the fire back.
You need to sit with the embers.
Because what’s coming next?
It’s deeper. It’s truer. And it will last longer.
You are not less.
You are just changing.
And that is not a crisis.
It’s an evolution.
Let’s build a business that supports this version of you. The softer, wiser, slower-burning woman who knows what she wants.
You don’t have to chase anymore.
You can attract.
You can align.
You can choose ease.
You can still be ambitious (just on your own terms).
🔥 Let’s build the next version of your success around this version of you.
